Central Basin Board President Elected to LAFCO

Robert Apodaca will serve as a special district alternate on the Local Agency Formation Commission Organization of LA County

Carson, CA- Central Basin Municipal Water District Board President Robert Apodaca was elected in a runoff election to serve as an alternate Commissioner on the Local Agency Formation Commission Organization (LAFCO) of Los Angeles County.

Formed in 2000, LAFCO of Los Angeles County is a state-mandated agency with county-wide jurisdiction, established to mitigate the region's urban sprawl by encouraging the efficient provision of such services as water, sewer and fire protection, as well as by reviewing and approving proposed boundary changes within the county. Composed of nine regular Commissioners and six alternates, Director Apodaca will represent the county's special districts as an alternate on the Commission.

"I am honored for the opportunity to serve the cities and special districts of Los Angeles County in this new role," said Director Apodaca. "The LAFCO Commission does important and challenging work for the County, and I look forward to being a part of it."

Director Apodaca's 3-year term on the Commission will end in May 2010.

Director Apodaca was originally elected to the Central Basin Municipal Water District Board of Directors in November 1998 and is currently serving his third term, representing the Division II cities of La Habra Heights, La Mirada, Pico Rivera, Santa Fe Springs and Whittier. A respected leader in the water industry, Apodaca also represents Central Basin on the Metropolitan Water District Board of Directors. Additionally, he has served as President of the Central Basin Board of Directors for the past three years.
