Newest member of Central Basin MWD Board will represent Division III

Commerce Resident Arturo Chacon Wins District Seat

Carson, CA - Arturo Chacon, President of Chacon Water Advisory (CWA), won the Division III seat on the Central Basin Municipal Water District Board of Directors in Tuesday's election. Chacon filled the seat left vacant following incumbent George Cole's announcement that he would not be running for another term.

Chacon outpolled candidates Servando Ornelas, Tomas Ramon Martin and Samuel Pena for the open seat with 43.1% of the vote. Chacon will take office in January 2007 and begin serving the cities of Bell, Commerce, Huntington Park, Maywood, Walnut Park and portions of Cudahy, Monterey Park and unincorporated areas of East Los Angeles.

As the current President of CWA, Chacon heads a company that provides guidance to home and business owners interested in reducing water use through xeriscape or water-efficient, landscaping. Chacon is also a member of the Water Conservation Garden and Friends of Clean Water, two non-profit organizations focused on promoting water-awareness and conservation. Additionally, Chacon has experience in city government, having served as a commissioner of parks and recreation and city planning. He currently resides in the City of Commerce.

Central Basin Board President Robert Apodaca, also up for re-election this year, ran for his third term unopposed and was declared the winner by the County Registrar. Director Apodaca represents Division II, which includes the cities of La Habra Heights, La Mirada, Pico Rivera, Santa Fe Springs and Whittier. Director Apodaca also represents Central Basin on the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California Board of Directors.
