Charles Trevío Leaves Central Basin Board Of Directors
Water Director Resigns from Office After Eight Years of Service to the East and Southeast Los Angeles Communities
CARSON, CA. - Director Charles M. Trevío, one of the first Latinos elected to a municipal water district board, announced his resignation from his Division III seat on the Central Basin Board of Directors at a recent board meeting. The resignation became effective Tuesday, March 25, 2003. Trevío cited time restraints imposed by a new job position as the reason for his resignation.
First elected to office in 1994, Trevío is known for his community outreach efforts. He helped develop and led a joint Central Basin-Metropolitan Water District campaign to inform East Los Angeles residents on the safety of tap water - a minority outreach program that has since been modified and expanded into the Asian-American community.
Trevío also created opportunities through the District's conservation programs to help many local schools and community groups raise much needed funding for their youth recreation projects and other vital community programming.
During his tenure, Trevío represented Central Basin on the Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA) Region 8 Board, was the only Latino member of the Urban Water Institute Board, and also served on the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California Board of Directors providing policy oversight on water recycling, conservation, and other water management programs.
