George Cole Appointed to Central Basin Board of Directors

Longtime Southeast Area Community Leader Sworn in April 28

CARSON, CA. - The Central Basin Municipal Water District board of directors voted unanimously Friday, April 25, 2003 to appoint longtime community leader George Cole to the vacant Division III seat on the board. Director Cole was sworn-in during the board's Monday, April 28, meeting.

Cole, a resident of Bell, who currently serves at the city's Mayor Pro-tem, has served 19 years on the Bell City Council, and has represented the region on the County Sanitation Districts board. Active in the Gateway Cities Council of Government, he serves as the city's representative on the board of directors. A regional leader, Cole was appointed by Mayor James Hahn to serve on the Commission to Redistrict the Los Angeles Unified School District Board of Education.

"George Cole is a welcome addition to the Central Basin Board of Directors," stated Robert Apodaca, President of the Central Basin Board of Directors. "He is an established community leader in Division III and has the experience to begin working immediately on the water-related issues that affect the southeast Los Angeles community."

Cole reflected on his appointment following his swearing in at Monday's board meeting.

"I look forward to serving the residents of Southeast and unincorporated East Los Angeles as a water district director. The 19 years I have dedicated to local government and community leadership will allow me to immediately step in and provide solid representation to Division III," he said.

Professionally, Cole is the Chief Operating Officer of a non-profit organization that builds senior housing and provides key services to senior citizens who reside in southeast Los Angeles.

Division III includes the cities of Commerce, Huntington Park, Maywood, a portion of Cudahy and unincorporated East Los Angeles. Cole replaces Charles Trevi�o who resigned last month.
