Board Vacancy Filled in Central Basin MWD
Olga Gonzalez, South Gate Resident, Appointed to Fill Division IV Seat
(Carson) - Olga Gonzalez, a resident of South Gate, was appointed Monday, Dec. 22, 2003, by the Central Basin Municipal Water District Board of Directors to fill the vacant Division lV position on the local water board.
Gonzalez, former Assistant to the City Manager in South Gate and current Clerk of the Board at the Orange County Transportation Authority, was unanimously approved by Central Basin Directors to fill the seat, which serves Cudahy, Lynwood, South Gate, portions of Carson and the Florence- Graham/Willowbrook neighborhoods.
"We are pleased to have found someone of Olga Gonzalez's caliber to join our Board," said Board President Robert Apodaca. "She believes as we do in good government and will help us to continue our goal of providing great service to the communities in the Central Basin."
Gonzalez, who was sworn in during Monday's regular Board meeting, has definite goals to fulfill during her term.
"My priorities are to ensure the safety and adequate supply of water for our region," she said. "Central Basin has made great progress toward securing future water supplies for our region and I am very interested in innovative solutions such a water reclamation and desalination."
A Business Administration graduate of the University of La Verne, Gonzalez currently serves on the Orange County Water Task Force, the Orange County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and is a past-president of the South Gate City Employees' Credit Union.
Term of office for the new Director will expire on Dec. 31, 2004. Election for the next full term for the Division IV seat will be held in November 2004. The appointed Director is eligible to run for the full term at that election.
