Central Basin Serves Up a New Conservation Device for Restaurants

Carson, CA - To help restaurants cut back on the significant amounts of water daily to wash dishes, West Basin Municipal Water District is continuing its latest program, "Rinse & Save." Through a grant from the California Urban Water Conservation Council, West Basin is offering FREE high- velocity, low-flow pre-rinse kitchen sprayers with FREE installation to local businesses.

Installing the kitchen sprayers could save up to 300 gallons per day. They also save on heating and waste-water expenses, for a total annual savings of up to $1,300 per business. These sprayers use only 1.6 gallons of water per minute, compared to older models that use 2 to 6 gallons per minute. The 1,007 valves currently installed in the Central Basin service area are saving 57 million gallons each year.

"This is a great program," Central Basin Board President Bob Apodaca said. "Like the other water-saving device programs we offer, this helps businesses conserve a significant amount of water. Plus, they can save money doing it. You can't beat that."
