Central Basin MWD Helps Huntington Park Residents Save Water and Money

District to Distribute FREE Ultra-Low-Flush Toilets at Middleton Elementary

Huntington Park, CA - In an effort to promote water conservation to residents within its service area, the Central Basin Municipal Water District is partnering with the City of Huntington Park to provide FREE Ultra-Low-Flush (ULF) toilets to the city's residents. The distribution event will take place on Saturday, August 28, 2004 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. (or while supplies last) at Middleton Elementary School, located at 6537 Malabar Street in Huntington Park.

ULF toilets are high in quality and use only 1.6 gallons of water per flush, compared with older models that use 3 to 7 gallons per flush. Those who install ULF toilets not only conserve water but also save money on their monthly water bills.

"ULF toilets are the obvious choice when looking to save water and money," said Central Basin Director George Cole, representing Division III, which includes Huntington Park. "I thank the City of Huntington Park for contributing funding to this program, allowing us to provide more free ULF toilets to the community."

To receive a FREE ULF toilet, participants must be residents of Huntington Park. Residents must also provide a copy of their most recent water bill and a current driver's license or photo ID. There is a limit of two toilets per home or apartment unit. The old toilet must be returned on September 11th from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Middleton Elementary School. Residents with two ULF toilets already installed in their homes are not eligible to participate.

Central Basin has developed numerous programs to assist residents in their water conservation efforts. Since the inception of the ULF toilet distribution program in 1995, Central Basin has distributed more than 35,000 ULF toilets, saving the District more than 300 million gallons of water per year - enough water to meet the needs of 2,000 families for one year.

Residents who are not able to attend this event may be eligible to receive a $50 rebate on any residential-type ULF toilet they purchase. The rebate application and qualifications can be downloaded from the District's website at www.centralbasin.org.
