Five-Year Water Conservation Strategy to Launch

Central Basin partners with local agencies to develop Conservation Master Plan

Carson, CA -The Central Basin Municipal Water District has begun the process of developing a Conservation Master Plan to ensure long-term water conservation and reliability for the region.

In these early planning stages, Central Basin will hold stakeholder workshops to gain the valued input and recommendations of local cities, environmental groups and water agencies. These community partnerships will help Central Basin develop regionally cost-effective programs, which will be implemented over the course of a five-year action plan, beginning this summer.

"This is a great opportunity to work with the community to increase our water supply reliability," said Central Basin Board President Robert Apodaca. "Through the development of a Master Plan, we hope to broaden our portfolio of conservation programs."

The Master Plan was approved by Central Basin's Board of Directors in December 2005. Through this plan, the District will develop long-term conservation strategies, enact conservation incentive increases for local residents and businesses as well as identify additional funding opportunities provided by the Metropolitan Water District.

This is not the first time Central Basin has worked to build community partnerships or increase water education. Since the early 1990s, popular residential and commercial programs have continued to define Central Basin as a national leader in water conservation.
