Norwalk Residents Receive Incentive to Conserve Water

Central Basin MWD to Distribute FREE Ultra-Low-Flush Toilets at City Hall

Norwalk, CA - In an effort to promote water conservation to residents within its service area, the Central Basin Municipal Water District is partnering with the City of Norwalk to provide FREE Ultra-Low-Flush (ULF) toilets to residents of Norwalk. The distribution event will take place on Saturday, October 9, 2004 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. (or while supplies last) at Norwalk City Hall, 12700 Norwalk Blvd. in Norwalk.

ULF toilets are high in quality and use only 1.6 gallons of water per flush, compared with older models that use 3 to 7 gallons per flush. Those who install ULF toilets not only conserve water but also save money on their monthly water bills.

"We're proud to be able to offer these water-saving devices to our residents free-of-charge," said Central Basin Director Gary A. Morse, representing Division I, which includes Norwalk. "Ultra-lowflush toilets not only benefit the residents and the community, but also help us continue our goal of providing a safe and reliable supply of water for the region."

To receive a FREE ULF toilet, participants must be a resident of Norwalk. Customers must also provide a copy of their most recent water bill and a current driver's license or photo ID. There is a limit of two toilets per home or apartment unit. The old toilet must be returned on October 23rd from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Norwalk City Hall. Customers with two ULF toilets already installed in their homes are not eligible to participate.

Central Basin has developed numerous programs to assist residents in their water conservation efforts. Since the inception of the ULF toilet distribution program in 1995, Central Basin has distributed more than 35,000 ULF toilets, saving the District more than 300 million gallons of water per year - enough water to meet the needs of 2,000 families for one year.

Customers who are not able to attend this event may be eligible to receive a $50 rebate on any residential-type ULF toilet they purchase. The rebate application and qualifications can be downloaded from the District's website at www.centralbasin.org.
