Montebello Councilman Wins District Post
Ed Vasquez victorious in bid for Division I seat on Central Basin Board
Carson, CA - Montebello City Councilman Ed Vasquez defeated incumbent Gary Morse for the Division I seat on the Central Basin Municipal Water District Board of Directors in Tuesday's election. Vasquez gained 55 percent of the vote, defeating Morse by a margin of 33,033 votes to 27,558. Vasquez will take office in January. Division I includes the cities of Bell Gardens, Downey, Montebello, Norwalk and Vernon.
A 30-year Montebello resident, Vasquez is currently serving his second term on the Montebello City Council after being elected in 1997. He is actively involved in several Montebello community organizations and has served on the Planning Commission for many years. He also currently serves as the Program Director/Clinical Coordinator for the Department of Radiologic Technology at Los Angeles City College.
Vasquez lives in Montebello with his wife, Rosemary, and has two children, William and Amy.
The two other Central Basin Directors up for re-election will both retain their seats. Olga E. Gonzalez and Phillip D. Hawkins were unopposed and declared winners in August by the County Registrar. Gonzalez represents Division IV, which consists of Lynwood, South Gate, portions of Cudahy, Carson, Florence-Graham and Willowbrook. Hawkins represents Division V, which consists of Artesia, Bellflower, Cerritos, Hawaiian Gardens, Lakewood, Paramount and Signal Hill.
