Central Basin Gets Greener with New Bottled Water
Local company provides a green alternative for popular community program
COMMERCE, CA. - Central Basin Municipal Water District has improved its popular bottled water donation program by switching to bottles that are made from 100% recycled materials. The purified bottled water, which is produced locally in the City of Commerce, will be donated to cities and non-profit groups for community events.
Since the 1990s, Central Basin’s bottled water program has remained a popular and cost-effective way for the District to promote public interest and awareness while supporting the community. Over the years, the bottled water labels have included information about rebates, water conservation tips, and helpful website links where people can learn more about critical water issues.
“We’re always looking at how we can improve the things we do,” said Central Basin Board President Ed Vasquez. “This program meets the District’s goal of making continual improvements to our business practices while also meeting our responsibility to the environment. It’s a real win-win for ourselves and for the people we serve.”
In the United States, about one-third of all plastic beverage containers are recycled. By using this FDA approved process of bottling the purified water in containers made of Recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate (RPET), Central Basin’s new eco-friendly bottles will reduce environmental waste in the region by utilizing post-consumer recycled material.
Central Basin Municipal Water District is proud to serve the people of southeast Los Angeles County by providing the lowest priced water in the region, and through valued community programs such as this one.
