Central Basin Helps La Mirada "Flush" Out Water Wasting Toilets

District to Distribute FREE Ultra-Low-Flush Toilets at Biola University

La Mirada, CA - In an effort to promote water conservation to residents within its service area, the Central Basin Municipal Water District is partnering with Suburban Water Systems and the La Mirada Chamber of Commerce to provide FREE Ultra-Low-Flush (ULF) toilets to residents of La Mirada. The distribution event will take place on Saturday, April 30, 2005 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. (or while supplies last) at Biola University, parking lot A, 13800 Biola Ave. in La Mirada.

ULF toilets are high in quality and use only 1.6 gallons of water per flush, compared with older models that use 3 to 7 gallons per flush. Those who install ULF toilets not only conserve water but also save money on their monthly water bills.

"Ultra-low-flush toilets are a great asset to the community," said Central Basin Board President Bob Apodaca, representing Division II, which includes La Mirada. "They not only help residents save water and money, but also help ensure the region maintains a safe and reliable supply of water for the future."

To receive a FREE ULF toilet, participants must be a resident of La Mirada. Customers must also provide a copy of their most recent water bill and a current driver's license or photo ID. There is a limit of two toilets per home or apartment unit. The old toilet being replaced must be returned on May 14th from 7 a.m. to noon at Biola University. Customers with two ULF toilets already installed in their homes are not eligible to participate.

Central Basin has developed numerous programs to assist residents in their water conservation efforts. Since the inception of the ULF toilet distribution program in 1995, Central Basin has distributed more than 35,000 ULF toilets, saving the District more than 300 million gallons of water per year - enough water to meet the needs of 2,000 families for one year.

Customers who are not able to attend this event may be eligible to receive a $50 rebate on any residential-type ULF toilet they purchase. The rebate application and qualifications can be downloaded from the District's website at www.centralbasin.org.
