Central Basin Director Rudy Montalvo Appointed To Metropolitan Water District Board Of Directors

Commerce, CA- The Central Basin Municipal Water District Board has appointed Division IV Director Rudy C. Montalvo to represent the District on the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD) Board of Directors. The appointment is effective immediately.

Director Montalvo will now join Director Phil Hawkins in representing Central Basin on the 37-member MWD Board, which addresses the water supply needs of the greater Southern California region.

Director Montalvo was elected to the Central Basin Board of Directors in November 2008 after being unanimously appointed to the Board in January 2007. He currently serves as the Board's Vice President and Chairs the Central Basin Communications Committee. Director Montalvo represents Division IV, which includes the cities of Lynwood, South Gate, Florence-Graham, Willowbrook and portions of Cudahy, Compton and Carson.

A longtime civic leader and former labor representative, his vast career was shaped by his early involvement in voter rights issues, public education and social services. As a resident of the City of South Gate, Director Montalvo served on the Planning Commission for 12 years, where he has played a significant role in restoring city governance. Additionally, Director Montalvo serves as the President of the Democratic Club of South Gate and is one of the co-founders of the Southeast Cities Democratic Club.
