Director Ed Vasquez to Serve as New Central Basin Board President; Director Rudy Montalvo to Serve as Vice President

Under new administrative code, Central Basin Board adopts new officers

Commerce, CA –Central Basin Municipal Water District Board of Directors has unanimously elected Director Ed Vasquez to serve as the new Board President, and Director Rudy Montalvo to serve as the new Vice President. Under the District’s newly revised and adopted Administrative Code, the positions of President and Vice President will be rotated annually based on seniority.

In November 2008, Director Vasquez was re-elected to serve his second term on the Central Basin Board of Directors. Since 2005, Director Vasquez has worked with his Division I Cities of Bell Gardens, Downey, Montebello, Norwalk and Vernon to improve water supply reliability through innovative partnerships and regional conservation programs.

"This is a tremendous honor," said Director Vasquez. "Now is the time for our communities to work together like never before to secure our future water supplies. As the Board President, I fully intend to support my fellow Board members and the 24 cities we represent in meeting this challenge."

"Director Apodaca has served faithfully as our Board President for nearly 10 years," continued Director Vasquez. "His talent, vision and dedication to the community have been unmatched. There’s no question his leadership has gotten us through some tough times, and he has made some great things happen for the District over the past decade."

After being unanimously appointed in 2006 to serve on the Central Basin Board of Directors, Director Montalvo was elected to the position in November 2008. Director Montalvo represents Division IV, which includes the cities of Lynwood, South Gate, Florence-Graham, Willowbrook and portions of Cudahy, Compton and Carson.
