Central Basin, California Water Service Partner for Conservation
East Los Angeles Residents Benefit from Additional Incentives
Carson, CA - East Los Angeles residents within the Central Basin Municipal Water District service area will have several exciting opportunities to participate in conservation efforts taking place in their area, thanks to a partnership between California Water Service and Central Basin. To increase participation in East Los Angeles, California Water Service has provided $20,000 in funding for an Ultra-Low-Flush Toilet (ULFT) distribution event, additional rebates on High-Efficiency Clothes Washers (HECW) and donation of six water-pressurized brooms, which conserve water while cleaning outside surfaces, to local schools.
Throughout the year, Central Basin provides its residents with several conservation opportunities. Commercial and residential rebates are available on several low-flow devices, including ULFTs, HECWs, water brooms and low-rinse kitchen sprayers. In addition to the existing $100 rebate on HECW, California Water will be providing another $100 for 40 HECW purchased in East Los Angeles. HECWs use 50 percent less water, 60 percent less energy and 50 percent less detergent than conventional washing machines.
"All of these programs greatly benefit our communities because they help everyone conserve water," said Dir. Cole, who represents Division III, which includes East Los Angeles. "When larger agencies can form a partnership to provide opportunities like this to the community, everyone benefits. We all need to conserve water in Southern California. This is a great way for all of us to work together and do just that."
Central Basin also distributes free ULFTs to the public at distribution events held in different areas throughout the year. Director George Cole will be hosting a distribution event Sept. 24 at TELACU, 5400 E. Olympic Blvd., beginning at 8 a.m. and running until supplies run out. In addition to the 500 ULFTs provided by Central Basin, California Water donated 150 ULFTs for even more East Los Angeles residents to take advantage of the opportunity to save 9,000 gallons of water annually with toilets that use only 1.6 gallons per flush compared to conventional toilets that use up to 7 gallons per flush.
