Metropolitan Board Chairman Appoints Committee Leadership

LOS ANGELES, Dec 11, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Timothy F. Brick, chairman of the board of directors of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, has announced key board leadership and committee appointments.

The new posts become effective Jan. 1, which also marks the beginning of a second two-year term for Brick, representing the city of Pasadena, who was re-elected chairman in October, and board Secretary Judy Abdo, representing the city of Santa Monica, who was re-elected last month. The leadership assignments were unanimously endorsed by the Metropolitan board, during its monthly meeting Tuesday (Dec. 9).

Anthony R. Fellow, representing the Upper San Gabriel Valley Municipal Water District, Marcie Edwards, representing the city of Anaheim, and Joseph Parker, representing the San Diego County Water Authority, were re-appointed to board vice-chair posts, while John W. Murray Jr., representing the city of Los Angeles, was named to his first term as board vice chair.

Along with the governing board posts, chairs and vice chairs for eight committees were appointed.

James H. "Jim" Bond, representing the San Diego County Water Authority, and Aaron A. Grunfeld, representing the city of Los Angeles, were re-appointed chair and vice chair of the Business and Finance Committee.

Ergun Bakall, a representative of the Municipal Water District of Orange County on the Metropolitan board, becomes the new chair of the Engineering and Capital Programs Committee. John T. Morris, representing the city of San Marino, was re-appointed vice chair.

City of Burbank representative Glenn A. Brown was named to another term as chair of the Water Quality and Operations Committee. City of Long Beach representative Suja Lowenthal joins Brown as the new committee vice chair.

Nancy Sutley, representing the city of Los Angeles and James M. Barrett, also representing the San Diego County Water Authority, were re-appointed chair and vice chair of the Water Planning and Stewardship Committee.

Jesus E. Quinonez, also representing the city of Los Angeles, was re-appointed chair of the Legal and Human Resources Committee. Larry D. Dick, representing the Municipal Water District of Orange County, was named vice chair.

Daniel E. Griset, representing the city of Santa Ana, will chair the Communications and Legislation Committee. Linda Ackermann, also representing the Municipal Water District of Orange County, is the new vice chair.

Representing the city of Beverly Hills, Robert Wunderlich, was re-appointed chair of the board's Audit and Ethics Special Committee. He will be joined by James M. Rez, representing the city of Glendale, who was re-appointed vice chair.

Phillip D. Hawkins, a representative of Central Basin Municipal Water District on the Metropolitan board, will chair the new Real Estate and Asset Management Special Committee. Randy A. Record, representing Eastern Municipal Water District, was appointed vice chair.

The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California is a cooperative of 26 cities and water agencies serving nearly 19 million people in six counties.
