Project Fact Sheet
As a leader in water conservation, Central Basin Municipal Water District is working to reduce the region's dependence on potable water through the production and increased use of recycled water.
With industrial sites as the largest single users of potable water, the Southeast Water Reliability Project (SWRP) would provide recycled water to large industrial and irrigation sites in the cities of Vernon and Montebello.
The 12-plus mile recycled water pipeline will extend from Vernon to Pico Rivera, connecting to the existing distribution system. This project will enhance the operational reliability of the current system by completing an actual "loop" of existing pipelines.
Currently, recycled water users in the western portion of the Central Basin's service area rely on the E. Thornton Ibbetson Cerritos pump station
and Hollydale pump station, which pump water to Vernon and other users in the western portion of the service area. The large number of industrial users in Vernon will eventually increase the demand for recycled water to more than 1.5 billion gallons annually, requiring additional pump capacity.
SWRP would tie in the Rio Hondo pump station, currently operating under its capacity, to provide additional water to Vernon as well as target potential future customers in the cities of Los Angeles, Montebello and unincorporated Los Angeles County.
SWRP is scheduled for completion in early 2009.
