Carson, CA – Sixth grader Jesse Alan Lesnik from City of Cudahy got something special from the Central Basin Directors at the Monday Board meeting – a brand new Apple iBook laptop computer that he can share with his family.
Jesse submitted the winning entry titled “Water is Precious” for the annual “Water is Life” poster contest sponsored by Central Basin in partnership with the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD). The Teresa Hughes Elementary School student was this year’s recipient of the special recognition designed to encourage students to illustrate the importance of water conservation.
“The poster contest is a fun way to help kids become more aware of water and its importance in our everyday life, “said George Cole, Central Basin Director representing Division III which includes Cudahy. “The Water is Life Poster Contest gives the District an opportunity to spread our water awareness message through the imagination of our youth.”
Each year during the month of May, Central Basin celebrates Water Awareness Month throughout Southern California through contests and outreach events that engage people of all ages. Water Awareness Month encourages water conservation, recycling and water education. The theme for this year’s poster contest was “Water is Life.”
