CA Legislature Introduces Delta Package
On Thursday, August 6, members of the Delta Vision Foundation (formerly the Governor’s Delta Vision Blue Ribbon Task Force) released an assessment of “pre-print” bills in the California Legislature that address the ongoing crisis in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. The “pre-printed” bills allow the legislature to meet and hear from the public before the bills actually go into print.
The Legislators will discuss the package at a joint hearing August 18 in Sacramento. The bill package, which will be the vehicles for the conference committee’s actions, includes:
- Preprint Assembly #1 (Huffman) – Delta Plan
- Preprint Assembly #2 (Feuer) – Water Efficiency
- Preprint Senate #1 (Simitian) – Delta Stewardship Council
- Preprint Senate #2 (Pavley) – Delta Interim Actions, Water Rights & Groundwater
- Preprint Senate# 3 (Wolk) – Delta Conservancy, Delta Protection Commission Revisions
The Legislature has indicated that water policy will be a central focus in the final months of this year’s legislative session. Let’s just hope that the legislature considers principles that guide a successful water policy that balances the diverse needs of the state.
