Sepulveda Feeder Shutdown Update

After meeting with the Metropolitan Water District and other regional agencies, Dave Hill, our Water Resources Manager, provides this update on the Sepulveda Feeder shutdown, which will last through July 2:
The Sepulveda Feeder shutdown represents a significant potential impact to member agencies and retail agencies in many areas of Southeast Los Angeles County and parts of Orange County (also known as the Central Pool Area), particularly due to the unseasonably warm weather we are having. However, Central Pool demands (which includes the Central Basin service area) is running at about 500 cubic feet per second (cfs), while supply is about 650 cfs, so it looks like we will be able to meet current and expected demands for the duration of the shutdown, provided the weather continues to cool down from last weekend. Central Basin retail agencies have not reported any adverse impacts to date. Additionally, MWD and their contractors working on the pipeline report they are on schedule or even slightly ahead of schedule. Even so, the shutdown is expected to continue for the full 12-day schedule through July 2.
