Loved seeing the yard (in the link) using urbanite for retaining walls! I became a permaculture designer a couple of years back; currently I'm really enjoying being a member of a cohousing group up here in Oakland (annual rainfall 14 to 28 inches). We've been capturing rainwater for a while (on the order of 800 gallons per season). We're about to embark on creating a greywater system, so we can water our fruit trees with shower/bath/laundry water. I strongly feel there's enough water around, we just have to get much, much smarter about how we use it. Ah, those SoCal homesteads… good memories.
