MWD CRA/Hoover Inspection Tour
As a member agency of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, Central Basin works with MWD each year to co-host “Educational Inspection Trips.”
For years, these tours have been a hit within our communities, drawing residents, business owners and civic leaders interested in learning about where the water comes from. After attending, many people tell us that the information gained has helped them become better “Water Ambassadors” in their community; empowering them to teach others about the importance of conservation.
Not only have these tours helped us spread water awareness, they’ve also been a great opportunity for us to get to know our community. Below is one special thank-you we got from four gentlemen who joined us on our first Colorado River Aqueduct (CRA) Tour of the year.
(don’t let your eyes deceive you – this isn’t an actual photo but one that Mr. Richard Boden skillfully edited to showcase the desert beauty of Gene Wash Reservoir, located near Lake Havasu City)

Aside from providing clean, safe drinking water to millions of Southern Californians, one of the most outstanding services provided by MWD are the inspection tours of their facilities. I’ve had the privilege of taking both the Colorado River Aqueduct and State Water Project (SWP) tours. The SWP was an amazing experience. After seeing the massive spillway of the Oroville Dam, the fish hatchery, and the granddaddy of all pumping plants, the A.D. Edmonston, I recognized that California has a water transmission system second to none in the world! Since that experience, I have become passionate about the California water story and take every opportunity to share it with whoever will listen! I too want to thank MWD and the Central Basin MWD for the opportunity to see our incredible water system!
