Welcome to the Water Cooler!

Art AguilarA few years ago, I don’t think many people in the water industry, myself included, imagined we would be venturing into the world of blogging to provide reliable, up-to-the-minute water news and information. However, with changing times comes new and improved ways to reach our growing community—a community that is increasingly found online.

We are excited to be taking advantage of these technological advancements to bring you our new site. We hope that you will want to return regularly to get the latest on water happenings in your area.

Perhaps the best part of the Water Cooler is that you won’t just be hearing from us—we have recruited many other top water experts to share their stories, news and events with our online community.

Because it’s important to us that this site is an open and interactive forum, we invite any questions, comments or ideas relating to our posts.

Please Join us around the Water Cooler, and happy blogging!

MWD CRA/Hoover Inspection Tour

As a member agency of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, Central Basin works with MWD each year to co-host “Educational Inspection Trips.”

For years, these tours have been a hit within our communities, drawing residents, business owners and civic leaders interested in learning about where the water comes from. After attending, many people tell us that the information gained has helped them become better “Water Ambassadors” in their community; empowering them to teach others about the importance of conservation.

Not only have these tours helped us spread water awareness, they’ve also been a great opportunity for us to get to know our community. Below is one special thank-you we got from four gentlemen who joined us on our first Colorado River Aqueduct (CRA) Tour of the year.

(don’t let your eyes deceive you – this isn’t an actual photo but one that Mr. Richard Boden skillfully edited to showcase the desert beauty of Gene Wash Reservoir, located near Lake Havasu City)

Are (Recycled) Water-Fueled Cars on the Horizon?

Here’s an interesting news clip that crossed my inbox:

A welder in Clearwater, FL, is using water to power everything from his blowtorch to a small SUV. With patents pending for this new technology, he has deals in the works with the U.S. Government (for a Hummer that uses water as fuel) and with an American car company for a new, water-guzzling hybrid.

While finding new uses for potable water might not be the solution we’re looking for considering our limited supplies and scheduled rate hikes, could this be a new frontier for recycled water? (video behind the cut)
